Description: During the Civil War, Jacksonport was occupied by both Confederate and Union armies due to its strategic position accessible to the Mississippi and Arkansas rivers. Five generals used the town as their headquarters. On June 5, 1865, Confederate General Jeff Thompson, "Swampfox of the Confederacy," surrendered 6,000 troops to Lt. Colonel C. W Davis at the Jacksonport Landing. Tour the Jacksonport Courthouse and its War Memorial Room, and the Mary Woods No. 2 steamboat, restored to the 1890s period.

 NOTE: The 1869 courthouse and  the Mary Woods No. 2 riverboat museum are closed temporarily  for renovations following tornado damage in March 1997.

Directions: From Highway 67 at Newport: take exit 83 and follow the Jacksonport State Park signs.
