I seem to recall that in the late-1960s or early-1970s a county in one of the "border states" declared itself "seceeded" from the state and the United States and that several courts ruled that this "right" had been decided a hundred years earlier.

Sorry that I can't recall much more than that. . .(it seems to me the article I read was in USNews & World Report).

If secession wasn't legal then the State of West Virginia should be abolished and returned to Virginia. Since it didn't follow territorial admission Guidelines for admission to the United States. It really is nice to be able to change the rules of the game when the other team comes to bat.

I agree. West Virginia was set up illegally and unlawfully, even if you disregard the secession issue.
