Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park - 12th Annual -
Looking for a way to give of your time and talents?
Volunteers are invited to help clean up the
battlefield and other park grounds. Local Master
Gardeners will prepare our heritage vegetable and
herb gardens. Other tasks we need assistance with
include picking up litter, raking leaves, painting
signs, repairing and replacing split rail fences,
and maintenance and cleaning of the park's historic
buildings. Some tools will be provided. Please bring
gloves and tools if possible, and wear sturdy shoes
and comfortable clothes you can work in. Coffee,
water, and snacks will be provided. Volunteers
receive a "Park Day" t-shirt, and will have the
opportunity to hear a local historian discuss the
significance of this site. Everyone is invited,
including scouts, church groups, reenactors,
families, and individuals. Note: Groups, please call
ahead so we can be prepared for you. Contact the

Be witness to history in the making. The Patrick R. Cleburne Camp of the Sons
of Confederate Veterans will host the annual Arkansas Division of the Sons of
Confederate Veterans Reunion in White Hall, AR on April 4th at the White Hall
Methodist Church. Business meeting will begin at 9am. After the business
meeting, there will be a memorial service at 2pm.
At 2:00pm on April 4, 2009, the Arkansas Division of the Sons of Confederate
Veterans will host a memorial service as part of the annual Reunion. The
service will be held on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Pine
Bluff. In 1998, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff built a new stadium
and thus relocated 37 unknown graves. In addition to remembering "The 37", a
special memorial service will be held for 3 Confederate soldiers and one
marker commemorating the unknown dead from Walker's Texas Division in the
vicinity. Libations will be performed by the 1st Arkansas Infantry Co. D
Living Historians.

Cleburne SCV Camp Edgar Colvin was responsible for
the ordering of the markers, engraving, and
maintenance of The Wright Cemetery, the location of
the memorial service. This will be the first
memorial service of its kind on a historically black
university. Become a part of history and be at the
University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's stadium
parking lot by 1:45pm on April 4, 2009. From Little
Rock, take Hwy 65 South when entering Pine Bluff.
Turn left on University Ave. The stadium will be
very hard to miss a few miles down. Anyone
interested in joining the Sons of Confederate
Veterans may also attend the catfish/chicken dinner
at the 2009 Arkansas Division SCV Reunion at the
White Hall Methodist Church at 6pm. Banquet tickets

Confederate Flag Day. This event will be held at the
Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock, AR. This will
be a day to gather on the lawn of the Capitol and
enjoy the fellowship of Southern Heritage. Bring a
Confederate Flag and wave it during the ceremonies!
Ceremonies include reenactors firing vollies, the
reading of Arkansas Confederate soldiers' names, and
speeches on Southern Heritage and the Confederate
Flag. Fellowship will continue afterwards at Vino's
Pizza on 9th and Chester Streets in downtown Little

In April, from
the 17th to the 20 th ,
PowhatanHistoricState Parkwill host an event for ladies interested in
re-enacting the mid-19th century. In two and a half days, the
Historic PowhatanSchool of the Lady covers subjects that engage all levels of
living history, from beginners to experienced, and teaches participants about
all aspects of life that pertains to women including, etiquette, sewing
techniques, cooking, history, music, personal hygiene and more. The school
emphasizes the accurate portrayal of these aspects during a living history
encampment. Our goals include not only the sharing of knowledge between ladies,
but the formation of friendships by socializing in a near total immersion
environment. This school will help the novices and the seasoned “veterans”
expand and improve their impressions. The registration fee of $75 covers 8
meals, including a high tea, and all materials. Deadline for registration is

Prairie Grove
The park’s Heritage Garden teaches about the diversity of foods used in the
1860s, during the time of the American Civil War. All plants in this garden
were grown during that time and are now called “heirloom varieties.” Learn
about compost methods, building and installing garden structures, bed
preparation, planting, and germination. Also discuss basic herb gardening, how
to choose your plants, site preparation, propagation, (division, layering,
cuttings), harvesting, and most importantly, how to use the herbs you grow!
Enjoy a lunch of beans and cornbread or bring your own sack lunch. Contact the

exhibition from Blair-Murrah illustrates the Civil War
through original prints by Winslow Homer, Currier and Ives, Edwin Forbes,
E.F. Mullen, and many other artists who put their own lives on the line by
