March 18, 2006 - Cleburne Memorial Sponsored by the Arkansas Reenactors and Arkansas Division SCV  --  The 21th Annual Cleburne Memorial.

This day is set aside to honor one of the greatest Generals of the "War Between the States"! This is your opportunity to say thank you in person to Gen. Cleburne. The ceremony will start at 11:00 and last about 40 minutes. All branches of military and period impressions welcome.


The Cleburne SCV Camp #1433, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, hosts this event annually. This year's event it is co-sponsored with two other camps the Shaver Camp #1655, of Jonesboro and the Newton Camp #197, of Little Rock. Civilian and ladies' welcome.

Artillery is welcome but must contact before setting up and has to be on site before 10 am day of event. Walk on must to be at site before 11 am on the 19th. April 13 -    "Edge of Conflict"   --  at the IMAX

AETN's "Edge of Conflict Arkansas in the Civil War" will be broadcasted onto the big screen at the Aerospace Education Center at 7 pm on April 13. This event will be sponsored by AETN, the Arkansas Times, KUAR, and the Aeropsace Education Center.

At this event, the SCV, COC, UDC, Reenactors from around the state, and the Civil War Roundtable of Arkansas will have a direct involvement in promoting and being visible at this event. Mark your calendars now for this Civil War extravaganza!


April 15, 2006 - Confederate Flag Day/Heritage Day

Join folks from around the state on Saturday April 15, 2006 for Confederate Flag Day/Heritage Day, Arkansas State Capital. It starts with a reading of those who gave their life to preserve the Confederacy at 10:30.

Then a program featuring our guest speaker Chuck Rand, Commander of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi, SCV at 11:00, and followed by a gun salute featuring Reenactors from around the state.

May 6 & 7  Battle of Chalk Bluff”

May 6 & May 7, 2006 - 143rd Anniversary of the Battle of Chalk Bluff – North of Piggott, Arkansas - Come to Clay County, Arkansas and see the beautiful Chalk Bluff  Park (10 miles north of Piggott, Arkansas) for our Civil War Weekend and participate in the "Battle of Chalk Bluff."
 

The event will take place on the actual battle site, a rare event now days. Amenities include powder for artillery, cavalry, infantry, water, firewood, and, hay, and a meal on Saturday evening.
 

Saturday, May 6th:

Arkansas in the War Between the States by
W. Danny Honnoll;

Annual Civil War Seminar at  The Old State House Museum

 

This year’s seminar sheds light on the contentious road to war

 

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Enthusiasts of Arkansas and Civil War history need to register soon for the Old State House Museum’s annual Civil War seminar. This year’s seminar will take place Saturday, August 19, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Old State House Museum, 300 West Markham Street, in downtown Little Rock. Entitled “’The Die is Cast’: Arkansas Goes to War, 1861”, this year’s offerings focus on the road to war, and will feature the following sessions:

 

“An eternal chitter chatter kept up in the galleries”: The Arkansas Secession Convention in Action, March-June, 1861 by Dr. Michael Dougan

 

Domesticity Goes Public: Southern Women and the Secession Crisis by Dr. Lisa Tendrich Frank

 

Arkansas’s Confederate Soldiers: Why They Fought by Dr. Carl Moneyhon

 

A “Remarkably Strong Union Sentiment”: Unionism in Arkansas in 1861 by Dr. Tom DeBlack

 

“When the Arks. boys goes by they take the rags off the bush”: Arkansas Soldiers in the Wilson’s Creek Campaign, 1861 by Dr. William G. Piston

Commemorate the Battle of Arkansas Post during the park’s annual Civil War Encampment, Union and Confederate soldiers will camp at the park and display the arms and equipment used during the Civil War. This years encampment will present both the Union and Confederate sides of the story of the Battle of Arkansas Post.

OCTOBER 7 & 8   - PERRYVILLE, KENTUCKY

The 144th Anniversary Battle of Perryville will be held the weekend of October 7 & 8, 2006 and bring together participants with infantry, cavalry, and full-scale artillery for a weekend of living history. Participant registration proceeds will go to the Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association (PBPA) to further our efforts to preserve the battlefield.

The recent acquisition of 600 acres of original battlefield is now available! Public battles on Saturday and Sunday afternoons with a Sunrise Cavalry Battle on Saturday Morning. Separate camps for US Military, CS Military, Civilian, and Mixed for Families. Sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Parks.

December 2-3       Battle of Prairie Grove, AR & 1st AR Battalion Muster
The Battle of Prairie Grove is remembered with this event featuring a battle demonstration by hundreds of historical reenactors at 1 p.m. both days. There are also guided tours through the soldier camps where living history programs abound throughout the weekend. Reenactors and visitors, contact the park for a detailed schedule and further information.
